What You’ll Need:
- A soft measuring tape (not a metal ruler!)
- A huge mirror to check tape placement
- calm setting, no rush
It’s preferable to measure your body in thin, form-fitting underwear or without clothing. Don’t suck in your stomach and breathe normally.
How to Measure Each Area Correctly:
Under Bust
🔹 Important for: bralettes, corsets, bodysuits
- Take off your bra and straighten up.
- The measuring tape should be wrapped around your ribcage, which is exactly beneath your bust and where a bra band would typically be.
- The tape should sit snugly but not dig into the skin.
- Exhale and take the measurement in centimeters.
Make sure the tape lies straight and level all the way around when viewed in a mirror.
🔹 Important for: bodysuits, high-waisted underwear, and garter belts
- Stand tall and relaxed without sucking in your stomach.
- Find your torso’s thinnest area, which is often directly above your belly button.
- Wrap the tape around this area.
- Make sure the tape is comfortably snug but not tight.
- Make sure the tape remains flat from front to back.
Pro tip: Gently twist at the waist to ensure the tape doesn’t move.
🔹 Important for: shorts, bodysuits, and panty fit
- This is where panties normally sit, just below your natural waist.
- At this level, wrap the tape over your hips.
- Typically, this is 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) below the waist of the garter.
- The tape should sit flat, with no slack or pulling.
- Double-check symmetry using a mirror.
Pro tip: If you wear low-rise or mid-rise underwear, this is the most crucial measurement for you.
🔹 Important for: Helps you understand how high or low the knickers will sit at the front and whether they’ll be comfortable in the crotch area.
How to measure:
- Lay the knickers flat on a smooth surface, making sure the fabric is even and crease-free.
- Find the centre of the front waistband – this is where you’ll start measuring.
- Place the start of the tape measure at this point and run it straight down to the seam in the crotch (where the front panel meets the lower insert).
- Top tip: Measure in a straight line without following the curve of the fabric to get the most accurate result.
